This week Giuseppe Rava visits us with the gift of a piece of his art. This is a different collaboration, since Giuseppe is a reknown military art illustrator.

Aquiles and Héctor

Giuseppe Rava was born in Faenza on 16 July 1963. As a child, he loved history, especially military history. This was mainly due to hearing the stories that his father Tommaso told him about his experiences in World War II. In addition, his passion for uniforms comes from his mother Giovanna, a tailor.

Giuseppe expands his knowledge on history and war by attending a wargames club. Thanks to books and magazines, he knows military painters like Detaille, Meissonier, De Neuville, Rochling, Ottenfeld and others. He wished he could paint like them one day. Self-taught, soon some editors noticed him and began with the illustration of children's books. Now he usually works on historical subjects.

He publishes or has published in magazines like Despierta Ferro, Medieval Warfare, Ancient Warfare, Clausewitz, Vae Victis, Montvert Publishing and especially in Osprey. Rava's illustrations are also used by "ITALERI", "HAT INDUSTRIE", "HISTOIRE ET COLLECTIONS", "A CALL TO ARMS", "BACK FALCON PUBLICATION", "EDITRICE MILITARE ITALIANA", "ANDREA MINIATURES", "EMHAR".

His favourite painting technique is tempera and sometimes oil painting.

Giuseppe unleashes his creativity with military miniatures for wargames from Roman times to the eighteenth century through the brand testudo miniatures.
